Plot dossier

The Testimony That Cannot Be Cleansed

A public plot record: pressure, causality, reversals, and the consequences that change a story.

A spoken accusation becomes a copied record, enters a file, crosses a closed door, and reaches judgment

The public dossier

At a glance

  • Premise: a copyist discovers that one coerced statement returns after officials revise the record.
  • Question: can the copyist expose coercion without creating another accusation or claiming supernatural innocence as proof?
  • Inciting event: a retracted line reappears in the fair copy.
  • Opposition: court authority, household dependence, communal fear, and the copyist’s belief in procedural neutrality.

Chain of consequence

Because the copyist checks the original, they discover the speaker’s hesitation was omitted. Therefore preserving it becomes disobedience. Because a private correction would be easy to dismiss, the copyist seeks corroborating ordinary testimony. Therefore another vulnerable person is exposed. Because the returning line attracts supernatural interpretation, the copyist must separate evidence of coercion from claims about magic.

Midpoint and crisis boundary

At midpoint the problem changes from “what happened to the page?” to “who benefits when uncertainty disappears?” The public crisis asks whether to make the damaged process visible at personal cost. The final action and historical-person involvement are not approved.

Ethical gate

The plot cannot reveal that real accused people were secretly magical, reward persecution with occult spectacle, or let an invented mechanism erase legal and social responsibility. Primary-source and sensitivity review precede any concept short.

Worlds

The systems that constrain this plot.

A household, meetinghouse, jail, and court are connected by routes of testimony and authority

The Village That Makes Evidence

This world begins with documented social and judicial violence in 1692, not a battle between colourful covens. Its speculative element must never excuse accusers or imply that the executed were guilty of real witchcraft.

Stories

Salem’s Secret Circle

An invented copyist finds that a coerced statement returns after an official revision. Preserving the contradiction could expose how testimony is being shaped, but publicizing an impossible page could deepen the panic and endanger the people the copyist hopes
