Faded Fables register

How the catalogue works

Faded Fables begins with a premise, but it does not mistake that premise for a finished story. The work moves through research, character pressure, world consequences, causal plotting, drafting, checking, revision, and illustration.

1. Record the promise

What makes the idea worth following? The answer should name a human or moral pressure, not just a famous person placed beside a fantastical object.

2. Separate fact, inference, and invention

  • Documented: supported by a cited source.
  • Inferred: a reasoned conclusion whose limits are stated.
  • Invented: created for the fiction and never presented as historical record.

Contradictory or incomplete sources are not silently flattened. Historical people are not assigned convenient private beliefs as fact.

3. Build the three registers

The character record identifies desire, misbelief, contradiction, relationship pressure, and agency. The world record follows material conditions, institutions, ordinary life, and the cost of wonder. The plot record traces pressure into choice and choice into consequence.

4. Test the route in short fiction

A short piece can expose weak causality, generic atmosphere, missing motivation, or a premise that has no ending. Free fiction should still be complete; it is not a sample with the resolution removed.

5. Revise before expanding

The strongest route may become a longer manuscript. Development notes identify what changed, what remains unresolved, and whether the book is only planned, actively drafted, complete, or available.

6. Illustrate the story function

Images are commissioned or generated from an editorial brief tied to the page’s central idea. They receive meaningful alt text, captions or provenance when useful, and a deliberate crop for the surface where they appear. An image is assigned as WordPress featured media before any article is published.

AI assistance

AI tools may assist with ideation, language exploration, analysis, or image generation under human direction. Their output is not evidence. Claims require sources; drafts require editing; images require visual review; and assistance is disclosed in the context where it matters.

Corrections and commercial links

Material corrections are dated. Affiliate relationships are disclosed immediately before the first commercial link, and no recommendation claims first-hand testing unless that testing occurred. Gumroad links name the actual edition and length rather than implying a full novel.
